Just copy the installer file that you download onto an external hard drive or USB flash drive (AKA USB stick, thumb drive, pen drive, jump drive). This new version will include the replacement to TreeSync, called FamilySync.
Troubleshooting Sync In Ftm 2017 Download Onto AnWhat you may not know is that TreeSync will stop working on 29 March 2017; however, all prior editions and versions of FTM will not receive updates including the new FamilySync technology. Melanie Mayo, Family History Daily Editor, has posted a good write-up explaining the implications. Its also not a bad idea to make sure you have the latest 2014.1 or 3.1 installer, in case you decide to roll back your installation of FTM to the earlier version. Hes also a technophile and has always tried to make his job or life easier by using technology. So of course hes interested in the intersection of technology and genealogy. He loves to try out new software, mostly for the Mac, but will fire up Windows on his Mac, as well. Do I still have to buy the new 2017 version this week before the change oe do I qualify for a free upgrade. They have page where you can find out if you qualify for the free upgrade. I didnt. If you bought it from Software MacKiev, not Ancestry, then you should get a free upgrade to 2017. Order your paid upgrade by the date as stated above for the best price. Are you referring to making a good backup copy of FTM 2014 or of your tree. But you will definitely need a backup copy of your tree to do this, because older versions of FTM cant usually open newer copies of the FTM database. That said, do I need to get a copy of the 2014.1 installer What would you recommend. Assuming they can verify that you previously purchased FTM 2012 from Ancestry, the price will be 29.95 before the release date, 39.95 after, otherwise 79.95 if they cant verify your purchase. However, if you BUY the 2014.1 from MacKiev (even if you already have the free version) that DOES qualify. I spoke with Jack Minsky at RootsTech in Feb, and if you have paid MacKiev for 2014.1 youll get 2017. Or order 2017 now. ![]() You cant expect to get a free upgrade to FTM 2017 from MacKiev if youve never paid them anything. Should I ignore that upgrade, proceed with the backup, and just move on to the 2017 MacKiev version My 2014.1 copy was a free upgrade from a previous Ancestry 2014 version. Then you could update to build 510 so that you have the latest one, in case you ever decide to roll back to FTM 2014.1. I have not tested this build so I cant vouch for it, but successive builds usually contain bug fixes that solve problems in earlier builds. Since you state that your 2014.1 was a free update, be aware that you will have to pay to upgrade to 2017, but its only 29.95 until the release date. Every release of a piece of software has a build number to distinguish it from previous releases. Theres the version number, like 2014.1, and then the build number, such as 501, 505, 510, etc. ![]()
